Question related to Bit Perfect output
« on: February 26, 2024, 04:59:10 am »

Hi

So, long time user of JRiver Mediacenter but since I get the version 32 one annoying question have been bugging me.
It is related to bit perfect playback - meaning ensuring that the file being played is not converted into another format.
It is fairly easy to setup, but and here is the kicker, if you either use the internal dac (could be the one built into your PC/Mac or a Soundcard)
or use an external DAC there is absolutely no way to verify what the out is - unless you have an external DAC with a display.
You cannot see it in the Windows Audio setting as this is not changed from file to file.
So, my question is simply - is there a way to see this in Mediacenter apart from just looking at the format of the file currently being played or
maybe even better is there some way to get it displayed in say the Taskbar of Windows?

I don't work for JRiver... I help keep the forums safe from "male enhancements" and other sources of sketchy pharmaceuticals.

Hmm - doesn't really make it easy to spot it at a glance. I would love just to have a status window displaying
the playback information with bit rate, sampling, DSD if used etc. Having to open up this window every time
does not meet what I am looking for - but thanks. Appreciate the suggestion...
If, not something that exist in MediaCenter 32 then maybe it could be a suggestion for the next version.

I'm assuming your request is related to audio only files as if it showed for videos etc, I suspect that most users would not be happy.

If you are using Standard View, look to the right of the progress bar at the top of the screen, you will see a cog icon.
If this is lit up, then you are using bit perfect output.
If you hover your mouse pointer over this cog you will see a window that describes the audio path in detail.

If you want to constantly see details like sample rate, bit depth etc you can right click on the area above the progress bar and select "Customise Display"

Thanks - Not the easiest way to see it, but it will work until a better solution comes up.
Have been playing around with it but have not been able to see a way to change the color or font.
Does anyone know how? Just extremely hard to see from even a short distance so would love to
make it a bit easier to read...

The way I have it now:
[Elapsed Time] // [Total Time] - [Bit Depth] bit - [Sample Rate]  [Bitrate (labeled)]  [PN Position] of [PN Tracks] [Audio Bitrate] [Zone]
