I rip all of my Blu-Ray and 4K UHD discs to my home server (Unraid) using MakeMKV. I do not transcode the files at all, they are all "lossless" (obviously lossy using whichever file format the studios mastered the disc in, but point is, I don't handbreak them after).
JRiver reads all files from my Unraid server and then plays them back on whichever screen I'm watching at the moment (usually at my production PC where JRiver is installed as the media server, or at my 4K TV where JRiver is installed on a PC as a client).
When watching movies and concerts, I occasionally get a skip of about 1 second of material every 40 minutes or so. When I rewind and watch through that section again, it plays through fine, so it is a playback error, not a file error.
I'm curious what may be causing this and what I can do to troubleshoot.
I have a beast of a production PC, so I highly doubt it is hardware related (Threadripper 2950X CPU with a RTX 2070 Super GPU). Both the Unraid server and the production PC are wired via Ethernet so it's not a bandwidth problem.
I have tried closing all other programs except JRiver and the error still occurs, so I don't think it's a service refreshing in the background. Because the error is random, I can't reliably repeat it, all I can do is throw on a movie and watch for about 40 minutes until it happens. It happens in *every* movie I watch. But again, when I rewind 30 seconds and play through the same scene, no skip.
This happens with Blu-Ray and 4K UHD files.
Is it possibly a bad RAM thing? JRiver loading chunks of a movie into memory and then not stitching them back together again properly? I have no idea how video playback works, only that it isn't smooth for me for some reason.
I'm using the latest version of JRiver (26.0.106 64-bit) on Windows 10 Pro.
Any help would be appreciated.
