Playlist Filenames Change
« on: August 28, 2021, 12:28:10 pm »

I posted this problem earlier but I think I made it too complicated, so am trying again with a simpler statement of the problem.

I have lots of playlists with lots of songs, all with filenames including the device name (i.e. \\devicename\music\artist\song.flac). I want to change them all to use the device IP address rather than the device name (i.e. \\192.168.nn.nnn\music\artist\song.flac). I tried using Rename, Move & Copy Files but that changed the song name to song(1),flac . Does anyone know of a way to do this without individually deleting each song in every playlist  and replacing it with the one using the IP filename?

https://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Rename,_Move,_and_Copy_Files

Read that carefully ... you want to use Find and Replace function or Update database to point to new location

I read the Rename, Move, and Copy Files info thoroughly (again) but still couldn't work out how to do what I needed so I just tried some different settings. As I said in my original post, Find & Replace caused the song name to be appended with a (1). I had the Mode set to Rename, which is how I have always used it when I used Find & Replace to change filename paths when I moved files. So I tried Update Database to point to new location (no file rename, move or copy) with Find & Replace and that did it! I guess my sort-of unique need to change filenames in playlists doesn't rate a mention in the instructions. Thanks for the help.
