Baby steps needed for Id install
« on: December 03, 2020, 01:04:10 am »

Hi All

My Id NUC just arrived but so far no luck with setup. I am a Linux virgin - no idea how it works

I am in a loop with the wrong startup menu AND cannot connect to network.

Instead of The "JRiver Id Main Menu" explained  on Install guide (https://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Id_Install_Guide) I get a subset of the options (Pic 1 attached) which then proceeds after a while to the second screen screenshot (attached)

I have tried rebooting and shut down (option 98 and 99)
I have tried Revert to default settings (option 77)
I can Rename the Id (15) or change remote access password (16)
I can enter the BIOS (but not sure if this helps)

I can enter network manager and it sees my network BUT can't connect. It times out on "requiring IP address" and does not prompt for password.

Thanks for any pointers

Can you attach in to your network wired?
You will then be able to configure the wireless network.

Optionally use you phone to connect to the Id which will show up as a wireless network (Id-XXXXXXX) where XXXXXX will be replaced by the Id's hardware address.

You can then access the Id wireless configuration page on your phone. On an iPhone and some android phones this will popup automatically after connecting the the Id network. On other android phones you may need to open your browser on the phone and go to:

Thanks Bob, connecting via Ethernet wired brought up the full text menu. Oddly, network manager still couldn't see my wireless network (it did when I first posted, just couldnt connect, then couldnt see my router ssid). My phone can't see the id either. Navigating to http://192.168.254.254 no help.

I booted into the GUI and opened the wireless config app. It saw my network and successfully connected. The Id now shows up on MC on my PC and I can open Panel webpage. Id also shows up on Windows 10 network and I can access "internal" and "external" media folders. Phone still cant see it!

I read that you have to add media to internal storage for Id SSID to broadcast(??). So added some files. Phone still cant see it.Whatever, I am connected and running from the GUI!

Is there are way to direct transfer files into the internal ssd (like from local usb external drive) rather than over the network?

Thanks for your help
Cheers
David

The Id will show a wireless network only when it's in that configuration mode. Now that you have it configured to use wireless you don't need that any more and you won't see it.
To connect with you phone use one of our apps, JRemote (iOS), JRemote2 or Gizmo (Android) or use a browser on your phone.
If you use a browser, find out your Id IP address by running function 11 and connect with

Okay and thanks, that worked to access Panel on android phone.

Re placing files on internal drive I gather the only way is via the network ? I would prefer a direct faster method if available. The install guide link for adding files "more info" does not work for me.....https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,113882.msg787106.html#msg787106

Edit: link now works

Thanks again
