Video playback via DLNA stops and starts
Ekpen:
Hello:
Amd 27.0.39 and maybe 2 prior versions,
dvd, bluray, including uhd movies will just freeze, and then continues.
The freezing sometimes lasts for about 90 seconds,at times 4 minutes.
Regardless what the playback device is, Nvidia pro and non pro, even directly from the Sony Bravia, the freezing of videos now makes movie watching a not too good experience.
Thanks.
George Omoregie.

Disk read retries due to a dying hard drive can cause this exact symptom.
Try copying one of your video files to a different drive and playing it from there.

Thanks for your response.
On this server, I have 4 external RAID boxes, two are new, also brand new 8 , 10, 12 tera drives.
I have tried playing mkv movies from most of the drives.
If any drive is bad, you will be alerted by Ubuntu...Disk and Gparted.
Ubuntu 20.10 installed on Samsung Evo pro SSD.
For a ripped dvd not to play smoothly, is surprising.
Out of 2600 + mkvs, only 12 are dvds, and tried playing dvs, after 1080p uhd,and Dolby vision titles failed to play smoothly.
update:
My audio --- flac is also plagued
with this stop and continue problem.
I now remember a while ago, I reported this issue both on the forum and in
PM.
Thanks again.
George.

Hello:
Another thread but related to my earlier post.
I installed Kodi on my bravia, then connected via Mo4media.
Gloria Estephan, dvd.
Kodi reported --- "Source too slow"
I also tried bluray 1080p, and a few uhds mkv.
All type of movies reported same error.
This server is an amd 64 has Intel 6950x cpu with 128 gig of memory and Nvidia 2080ti.
It looks like info is not being read quickly.
On this new Ubuntu server, I did not notice this read error regarding slow read .
In fact , in the past, I have bragged on the smooth playback on this box since December of 2019 when it was launched.
Thanks .
George.
JimH:
Do you have the problem when you play on the server itself?
If it happens on the server, it could be a hardware problem, as wer suggested.
If it doesn't, then the network could be the problem. You could try substituting a different server in the same location, just to test.
128GB of memory is unusual.
