Hi all,

I've got some mp3's that are missing the contents of a certain field. A friend of mine has the same mp3's but he does have this certain field filled.
Is it possible to overwrite my mp3's with his whilst keeping my original tags BUT adding the tag of his 'certain field'?

You'll probably need to import both files, merge the labels into one of them (manually?), then delete the other.

Thanks for your suggestion, but I'd rather not have to do this manually...
I hope there is a way to automate this one way or another.

To automate this kind of task, you may want to take a look at DataFiddler on the SwagOfTools:

You'll still need to import both files, but you can then create a script to automate the merging of tags. You can even script the full cycle: import -> merge -> delete the copy.

This however has a steep learning curve... it's worth learning it if you plan on having to do this many times and/or for many files. For a one-time thing, maybe it's easier to do it manually (you can copy/paste file tags into Excel and massage it there).

Another automation alternative is MCUtils, if you're fluent in Perl:

AFAIK there's nothing native in MC that you can use to automatically merge the tags from 2 files.

It's not a burden I'd sympathize with when it's a couple of clicks that can be one all at once.

Import his files, select them all, hit Ctrl-C, then select your files and do a paste tags with only the tag you want selected. Done.

Exactly what I was looking for.
Was a bit of searching at the beginning as this option cannot be found under the right-click options. But it is in the main menu.

It actually is in the right click menu, in addition to the Edit menu of the top menubar. It's on the Edit Command sub-menu of the right click menu.

Make sure you have your source files and target files in the exact same order, and the same number of files must be selected for the copy and the paste. There is no validation.
