Matt,
I agree with Raistlin 2000, especially after introducing this new function "Reset all views to default".
It may take a few minutes to rebuild them, if you have just a few simple views, it might take more time if you build complex views - the more user defined fields you introduce, the more complex views might become! Remember: Once you offer a tool, users are going to stretch their usage far beyond the programmer's imagination!
Samples:
One view named "Travel" looked like that: Genre>Continent>Country>Album>Name (Travel>North America>USA>California>Golden Gate Bridge Sunset!)
Another view scheme group named "Arts":
Arts
>3D Art
>Clip Art
>Cover Art
>Graphic Art
>Paintings>Artist>Name
>Paintings>Country>Gallery>Artist>Name
>Paintings>PaintStyle>Artist>Name
>Paintings>Movement>Artist>Name
>Paintings>Collection>Artist>Name
>Paintings>Year>Artist>Name
>Poster Art
Another one named "Composer":
Composer>Album>Name>Orchestra>Conductor>Soloist
Although I saved "View Info" in the registry, they could not be restored after clicking "Reset all views to default"
So there should be some mechanism to backup certain settings and views and being able to restore them!
In a similar direction goes the following: As a beta tester from time to time you really have to deinstall and reinstall MC (JimH often recommends it!). MC then wipes out the folders MegaSkin, MiniSkin, Visualizations, so that everything downloaded from J River into those folders needs to be downloaded again, if you do not backup yourself by hand!
You may also argue here that it takes only a few minutes to download again, but they can become very long few minutes. Why not backup or leave stuff downloaded by the user and wipe out the core stuff only!
