You probably need to configure Windows Defender.  There's a thread on the MC27 board.

yes i did.  except the %APPDATA% part which I can't find on a fresh install.  Still imports for around 5 minutes then stops and closes.

%APPDATA% is a variable since the AppData directory path varies from system to system, which you can copy/paste into File Explorer to get the actual path for your system. %UserProfile%/AppData/Roaming also should work.

Alternatively, you can enable hidden files in File Explorer, then open File Explorer to the root of your boot drive (e.g. C:\) and go into the Users folder > then into the folder name of your account that's currently logged in > then into the hidden AppData folder and go from there.

I think i'm going to do another windows reset.  then turn off windows updates.  then reinstall mc25.  it's a dedicated laptop just for music only.

Please help.  I'm on my 3rd laptop.  I added a new file type every time it stopped.  i pretty much added all of the ones in MC file types and more and it still stops and shuts down. Will upgrading to mc 27 help?

Are you sure it's on Import that it crashes?
From the log on your 1st post I see that it crashes immediately after it tries to start playing something:

0209719: 6192: Playback: CPlayerZoneDisplayInfo::UpdateFileInfo: Zone {Mancave} Playback state is STOPPED
0209719: 6192: Playback: CPlayerZone::Play: Start
(...)
0209750: 1444: Playback: CPlayerZoneDisplayInfo::UpdateFileInfo: Zone {Mancave} Playback state is PLAYING Position 20000, Duration 221000
0209750: 1444: General: TopLevelExceptionFilter: Unhandled exception -- program crashing

You should try to find what exactly is causing it to crash; don't do multiple things at the same time. Start the import process and let it finish.
If it's really the Import, it's usually caused by bad files - I see MC is having trouble importing some .PSD covers you have there (maybe they're too large). Try to remove them or exclude them from Import. You can also try importing you collection in chunks, by subfolder, instead of trying to import it all in one go - this will tell you where the problematic files are.

Thanks Zybex.  I deleted dozens of files already.  I'll try subfolders.

2 things that really helped alot after wiping and reinstalling windows.

1. defrag your hard drive.  I think a lot of times it stops because it's searching inefficiently.
2. split your files into subfolders.  I made 1 for each letter of the alphabet and 1 for numbers such as 2pac, 50 cent, 10cc etc.

I saved myself from buying a new laptop.
