Control of which zone WDM driver plays to?
« on: February 17, 2021, 03:55:32 pm »

I have a multizone-setup (4 soundcards), I use MC to play to the different soundcards. BUt sometimes I want to play with spotify or similar, but it seems a bit random which zone it uses to play back the "WDM sound", I want it to use the zone that was active last. Is this somehow possible to do (and bonus question, can i get the last playing now back when the WDM-playback stops?)

You can specify which zone the WDM driver uses by creating ZoneSwitch rules.

I don't want it to use a specific zone, I want it to use the last active zone.

That's exactly what it does by default. It will play IPC to whatever zone is currently active in MC.

I tested on my system, and that's exactly what it does.

ZoneSwitch overrides that behavior, so if you have ZoneSwitch active you might want to check it's not getting caught by your ZoneSwitch rules.

Hmm, weird, that doesn't seem to be consistent on my setup, although sometimes it shows two zones as active at the same time. What should decide what is the active zone? Lets say i run something over VDM, it opens the "Lpc-file" in zone 1. I stop all sounds in the system, i then play some songs in zone 2. I then activate the VDM-playback gain, for me it will then often just play it in zone 1.

Try changing Options->Audio->Advanced->Set active zone for WDM/ASIO driver live playback
