DNLA Play of 96-192/24 Files Not Working Correctly
« on: March 03, 2021, 03:42:16 pm »

Set up is music files on a NAS, SOtM as DLNA device with USB to DAC, MC23 run on a laptop + JRemote.

When I play Red Book files, DAC reads out 44.  .dsf files read out 64x as they should.  When files are 48/24 DAC reads out 48.  But when I play 96/24 or 192/24 files DAC reads out just 48.  How can I get the full higher resolution files to the DAC using DLNA?

Thanks in advance.

DAC generally has no problem playing and reading out higher resolution files.

JimH,

Thank you for your quick reply.  But I cannot seem to make it work.

If under "Playing Now" I click on "Player" and open DSP Studio, all of the outputs are set to "No change."  If I change 96,000 to 96,000 nothing new happens when I use the DNLA route.

If under "Playing Now" I click on "SOtM-USB" and try to open DSP Studio I get "DSP Studio is only available for local zone" message.

Is there a next step?  Can this be fixed in MC 23?

For DLNA, you must set conversion on the server under Media Network settings.

JimH,

Thanks again for your response.  But I must still be missing something.

I go to: Options-Media Network-Client Options.  All boxes checked.  Then:-Audio Conversion

It was: "Conversion: Convert audio if necessary."  I changed it to "Always Convert Audio."  That didn't help at all.

Also went to: Add or configure DNLA Server-Advanced-DSP Studio  It opened to show, as usual, all outputs were "No change."

Is there anything else to do?

Just to make sure that the problem was not with my DLNA "Box" (using a term you use elsewhere since my "box" doesn't seem to meet any of the definitions on the Wiki) I tried using my Oppo 105 as a DNLA box with spdif to the DAC.  The results are the same.

So, am at a loss here and I would ask again, is this fixable within MC 23?

Last call for help!

To see whether the fault may be with my DAC and its Amanero USB board, I disconnected the DNLA device, changed the settings in MC 23 and ran the USB cable directly from my laptop.  All DAC readouts were perfect with high resolution files reading out as 96K or 192K and playing perfectly.

Finally I deleted and reinstalled JRiver MC 23.  Nothing changed.

So I have tried 2 DNLA devices with the same results.  I have verified the playback of the DAC.

I seems to me that there is a simple mistake my MC23 settings or there is a limitation in MC23.  Can someone please suggest which it may be?  Or is there another place to go for assistance?

Check the conversion settings on the server, not the client.

I have absolutely no idea what you mean here.  Your explanations are in an abbreviated code evidently meant for those quite knowledgeable about the program, which I suppose most of your users are not.
I have been using your DNLA page.  On that page you define the "Server" as where the media resides.  My media resides on a NAS.  Conversion settings on the NAS??

Fact is, as a last resort after a week of seeking help, I just tried changing everything.  When I changed "Generic DLNA" to "Audiophile 24 bit DAC" everything began to work perfectly.  Yet on your DNLA page you write, "The default "Generic DLNA" will usually work, except if you have a PS3 or XBox."

Learn to use Google.  Ask your question and add JRiver.  Use DLNA, not DNLA.  Use the JRiver wiki.

LennyM, I use Mode: Original.  It works for me.  See attached pic.
