File permissions problem on Samba share
« on: March 20, 2021, 01:27:37 am »

I'm new with JRiver MediaCenter but not new with macOS and Linux.

When using MC (27.0.73) on my Mac (11.2.3) to maintain my music library which is located on an Ubuntu Server (20.04 LTS) using a proper Samba share, the file permissions are going to be destroyed when doing some tag changes.

All my audio files are located on a RAID5 with permissions 0750.
After modifying tag information of an album, file permissions of some (sometimes all) files are changed.
>> see picture
This can be fixed with chmod, but this can't be a solution... a really a strange behaviour of MC.

Do you guys know this issue?
Or is it a bug?

How do you mount the Ubuntu partition to the MAC?
Which file system is being used?
Do you use a the same username on both systems?

It seems rights get undefined, because of the way you mount. I expect only those files that got tagged, got this error?

FWIW, I use NFS to mount my media share from a Synology 1819+ on my iMac and I find it much more stable than SMB.

Check/uncheck the "Apply default UNIX permissions" setting:
https://www.synology.com/en-global/knowledgebase/DSM/help/DSM/AdminCenter/file_winmacnfs_nfs

Also try with NFS v4 disabled as it requires a compatible client with idmapd enabled (no clue if MacOS does that).
