Don't Automatically Expand Arrows in Panes View

Hi all. This has been driving me crazy. I have one panes view set up that I sorta use as a dump for my entire library. Is there any way in the first column to disable auto expand? If you look at the attached, you'll see I clicked on "Classical" -- it would be cleaner not to expand those contents in that column automatically and just use the other columns I have set up to navigate. It's become a pet peeve and I can find no workaround (disable tree view, etc.).
