Support for Debian Bullseye
« on: August 16, 2021, 02:53:34 am »

With Bullseye being the new "stable" Debian now, will it officially be supported for MC28 or is this a thing for MC29?

(Just planning which of my systems/VMs could be upgraded already)

If you're asking if Media Center works fine in Bullseye, it does.

Rebasing Media Center to Bullseye is something that shouldn't be done part of the way through the development cycle. I imagine it'll rebase to Bullseye when MC29 comes. At least that's my guess.

Thank you!

Then I'll keep this VM on Buster until a new major version is being released for Bullseye.

There is really no reason to keep your OS back. Newer versions of Debian are generally supported just fine, but as we only release one version, we won't upgrade our build system for a while as we don't want to force everyone to upgrade immediately. I don't know if 29 will already change, or we will only do it later, it also depends if there is actually anything to gain for us from doing so.

Thank you too!

Since you both state that Bullseye works fine, I'll maybe use this VM as the pilot for the upgrade. The other systems/VMs are either "mission critical" or completely offline/isolated and therefore won't adopt early (or at all). Keeping the library server VM on Buster is no big deal, as it is offline except for when I want to apply an update (also, Buster is still in full support). I guess I'll wait until the first point release anyhow, based on what I've read in the release notes.
