Future of JRiver
« on: August 13, 2021, 09:46:07 am »

Since MadVr is NO longer being developed/upgraded  by madshi. is JRiver working on to find an alterbative or just waiting for the doom's day . I'm sure there áre lot of us who are hooked to JRiver because of its MadVR capability(and of course its excellent Library management)

Has madshi actually announced that madVR's development is ceased? If not, I wouldn't make that assumption. More than likely he's been busy with the madVR Envy that he's been working on the last few years.

I don't work for JRiver... I help keep the forums safe from "male enhancements" and other sources of sketchy pharmaceuticals.

Its been discussed ... no concrete plans yet ...

MadVR in its current official release form is still excelent for watching anything ... upscaling is still top notch with NGU.

HDR tone mapping is static but outperforms most consumer products ... I would say its still top notch for living rooms for years to come.

Dedicated theatre rooms is a bit different story as projectors dont have the brightness of TVs. For these application, most enthusiast use MadVR beta 113 that has dynamic tone mapping (which JRiver does not officially support). In this application, for the money you shell out for top notch GPU to run MadVR ... it might be worthwhile considerig Lumagen RadiancePRO (MadVR Envy imho is just way too expensive) as it will allow you to use Video Processor for other video sources (TV, games).

While madshi stand by HTPC madVR ... lack of official releases for so long ... is a bit unsettling.

PS. Also ... what exact features you think MadVR is currently lacking that will spell doom one day

PSS. Plex and Kodi been doing their own tone mapping for years now ... and its still so so
