Error: (hr=0x80004005)
« on: August 16, 2021, 06:13:37 pm »

When I try to play some  video files MC28 build 49 and MC27 build 85 show the following message:
Failed to play or parse file (hr=0x80004005)
I can play the files using other players on my PC (windows10) and on my TV and Satellite receiver.

You may find some clues about what happened in the log

I usually get that error if audio device MC is using somehow become inaccessible from Windows (in my case probably due to hdmi handshake) … Windows restart clears that problem for me

I think it's some generic windows "can't open a file" type of error hence the logs are useful to see what it was doing at the time

Thank you for your replies. Forgive my ignorance: where do I go to check the log files?
Cheers

Fixed :)

Although the option "Support extra long filename" was ticked MC could import them but not open them.
I shortened the Filenames and the issue was fixed.

Thanks

You probably also need to enable extra long filenames in Windows itself as well.
