In thrashing around for a solution to my present MC issues I thought about what codec pack I had installed. I searched the forum and wiki and couldn’t find what I wanted to know; are users installing one of the popular CODEC packs? Or does MC have everything it needs?

MC manages all this itself, no need for anything else

An internet connection is assumed, and taken for granted. It requires that to get at what it needs, and it's all you need to provide for it.

Thanks. My followup is: If I do have a codec pack installed .. I typically use Shark007 .. would that conflict/interfere with MC? Since this is a dedicated Win 10/MC box and MC takes care of itself I could forego installing ANY 3rd party codec pack .. should I forego it?

I don't personally recommend using codec packs. These days media players (JRiver Media Center, MPC-HC, MPC-BE, PotPlayer, VLC, etc.) have all the codecs built-in.

System installed codecs should have no impact on Media Center, and you don't need them so no need to install any if all you use is MC.

I expect to find out this eve if the problem is gone. I reinstalled Win 10 and the LAN driver, and let Windows do all of the updates. I then installed the other drivers and MediaInfo saving the Intel display driver for last before installing the most recent stable MC build. I must admit to having anxiety!
