Volume changes are slow (with internal volume setting)
« on: October 07, 2021, 08:50:35 am »

When I change the volume it seems there is a ~.3s or so delay for MC to actually change the device volume.  This makes it very hard to adjust it with my volume dial since the audible feedback is so delayed.  Is there a way to fix this volume change sluggishness?

I tested other media players and they change the volume instantly which is much nicer.

It might be connected to the amount of buffering you're using.  Change it Options > Audio > Device settings.  It's really quick for me.

I am using WASAPI output and changing buffer length appears to have no effect.

Are you running any DSP that could add latency?  I'm WASAPI to my monitor speakers and the change is really quick.

I tried turning off all effects in DSP Studio and this had no effect.

I thought this was normal - impacted by the Stop,Seek,Pause in the Track Change Audio settings?

The USB volume change protocol does not require any pausing.  It should be instant.

But with internal volume I think JRiver is performing all volume control on the audio stream so if there is a delay then this is purely a function of the internal JRiver processing and has nothing to do with USB audio.  So this issue is definitely caused by JRiver...
