Multi-channel weirdness--no center channel--Mac Mini M1 with JRiver 28

--I made sure "Audio...advanced...autoconfigure output settings on playback error" was set to "no"
--All DSP studio resolutions in DSP studio are set to 48kHz
--DSP studio is set to "source number of channels" though I've tried setting it to 5.1
--Source material is 48kHz
I'm absolutely stymied by this. Like I said, if I set it to 5.1, and "Move Center to Front L/R" then it does exactly that.
So there is sound, just no center channel. Sounds like some weird mapping issue to me!

trying to help because 5.1 over HDMI (No way to do Multi Channel over DLNA) works for me, albeit in audio mode. If you set "Move Center to Front L/R" wouldn't you expect the Center speaker to be silent?
If I set to 5.1 everything, even the 2 channel tracks, play on all speakers. If I set "source number of channels" then only the original 5.1 mixed tracks play 5.1. The 2-channel tracks then play 2.1 (because my receiver will send anything at ≤ 200 HZ to the Woofer. I always have "Move Center to Front L/R" unchecked
Might there be a difference in how Video sound is handeled vs Audio only?

Yes, I'm pretty sure that is the case.

Hmmmm. I will check multichannel audio and let you know :)
At this point all I know for sure is that MC28 works differently on an M1 Mac than on the older 2012 Mac mini.
There’s no reason why the centre channel—which is being delivered—shouldn’t be coming through the actual centre channel speaker :)
@HaWi—just to clarify—when properly set up there is no centre channel playing—in some movies that means they’re just silent!
The only reason I set MC to bounce the centre to L/R speakers was to prove the information was actually coming through the system :) I didn’t expect the centre speaker to work at that point :)

Ok, so I checked multi-channel audio output. FWIW--Pink Floyd 5.1 Dark Side of the Moon--and no joy. It's the same: no center channel, but working sub, left, right, LR and RR. So I have, currently, for some weird reason, a working 4.1 setup :/
That's looking like a JRiver MC flaw. Since the 5.1 speaker test works from the Mac Midi app, and the signal *is* being sent, there's gotta be a bug in the way JRiver is handling things...
BTW @HaWi, this is not with any Mac--like the ones in your sig :) My Intel Mac Mini worked fine (but doesn't support the video stream I want). This is just with the 2020 M1 Mac Mini.

Please turn on logging (Help->Logging) and try to play the audio 5 track file.
Then do report problem. You can send me the zip file

On Mac, MC extensively logs the audio device open. This could be useful for finding the issue.
