I jumped on the JRiver bandwagon with version 11 playing music stored on my WD MyCloud into a Win10 laptop and out to my hifi through USB. While I continue to use this setup in my summer residence,, I have moved to a new home which needs a new music and video setup using JRiver. My Western Digital has nuts the bed so I need a new NAS. Synology seems to get great reviews and supposedly has great apps, though I am not planning to use their media apps. I am new to video streaming and want use JRiver to push content to my TCL Roku equipped TV. Is this possible? If so, how?

The DS220j is affordable enough but only sports 512 of RAM. Will this present a problem?

I am not much of a computer person so maybe there is a better storage system out there to consider. Thoughts on that? I have a 600gb music library and looking to build video to about the same size.

Secondly, my house is 100% concrete so I am playing audio files through a Denon HEOS system with 2 zones. The HEOS software sucks and I have not had much success pushing my playlists etc. to HEOS, but Denon just updated their software and I am getting ready to update to JR 28 so hopefully they will play better together. Anybody have experience with pushing JR music to HEOS to make this work?

Any other considerations I should be thinking about? Feel free to chime in. I first got into music spinning 45s so this network computer stuff isn't my Forte so please be gentle.

Concerning the choice of Synology NAS, it would make sense to run MC from a docker container on the NAS (check out the shiomax image). If you plan to do so make sure the NAS you get supports docker (not all of them do). Also, you probably need more RAM. What I can say for sure is that on a Synology DS1819+ with 32GB RAM (my set-up), MC28 runs perfectly.
Regarding networking, I strongly recommend to run an Ethernet cable to your AVR, especially for HiRes music and video.

Ok so I did check A site that says the DS220+ does support Docker technology.  If I do set up MC to run on the NAS, what am I using to control it?
Gizmo or my laptop?

Once it's running, you can access MC from the NAS directly via VNC or using the URL on a browser. If you set up the Media Network you can also use Gizmo (Android), JRemote 3.36/3.37beta (iOS/iPadOS) or MO 4Media (iOS/iPadOS) to control playback.

You do not have to have MC running on a PC or laptop those machines can be asleep or shut down

You can control MC from a tablet via webrowser. This can be done from within your home network, and outside of your network, while you are away on business or pleasure.

What else am I missing?

Yup, that's why I am serving it on from NAS and rPi (just as a backup)
You can also access MC from iOS/Android devices using JRemote or MO 4Media apps

So I can not access the server after installing Shiomax image and going through the steps on the Synology container setup. The  attached picture shows how the Container is setup.

I have disabled the firewall setting on my router and still can not connect. What should I check or change?

If you followed Max's instructions you shouldn't end up with those ports. In fact, Max suggests to set it up with the host network and access on port 5800. The other ports (to run MC from a remote) are baked in. That's what I did and it worked like a charm.
