MC need Codecs
« on: December 10, 2021, 01:35:16 pm »

Hello Community,

I tried to start a video, but MC tries to load some codecs that do not start.
The small window opens with the turning circle, but nothing happens.
A new folder is created under User, but it remains empty.

I have now tried to deactivate Bitdefender and start it as admin, but this was unsuccessful.

What else can I do so that MC loads these codecs by itself?

Sounds like Bitdefender is blocking MC from downloading the components it needs. It's known to cause issues with MC.

Uninstall Bitdefender to test.

The same after deinstall Bitdefender.

Is there any option to download extern and copy it to user folder?

It's a new folder lav64 in Users with files, created befor deinstall Bitdefender.

But avcodec64 and libplacebo64 are empty.

Reboot.  Configure Windows Defender.

Also check the Windows Defender Firewall and make sure Media Center 28.exe, JRService.exe, JRWeb.exe and JRWorker.exe have inbound and outbound rules with allowed access for all protocols.

I have tried this now with Windows Defender and have no success.
The AvCodec64 folder is created but remains empty.

If I click on cancel the required component in the window, nothing happens either, so I always have to close MC via the task manager.

I tried the same thing again with Bitdefender and released the 4 files in all directions in the network, but the folder remains empty.

It could be your firewall on your computer or on your router.  It's a problem on your machine or network, not with MC.

I removed two posts.  I'm not OK with sharing any parts of MC.

Can me anyone send the files?
No, that would be like giving your PC a fish, next time there's an upgrade it would go hungry again.

Your PC needs to learn how to fish:

Follow this guide to completely remove Bitdefender: https://www.windowscentral.com/how-uninstall-bitdefender-windows
Then ensure Windows Defender is configured correctly as per Awesome Donkey's instructions.

Re-install MC28 by double clicking the MC28 install executable (download from the forum).

If you want to continue to use Bitdefender then you will need to raise the issue with them.

I don't understand the subject.

If MC blocks the plugins, why not the updates or lyrics too?
Then these would have to be blocked if MC could not send and receive afterwards, right?

It is NOT MC that is doing the Blocking, it is probably your Firewall, your Router or possibly your ISP which is doing the Blocking, preventing the files being downloaded and installed.

It's most likely the unpacking which is being blocked by over-eager antivirus software. That's why empty folders show up but no content.

I have now tested in safe mode with network drivers. It doesn't work there either, although neither Windows Defender nor Bitdefender are started.
Then I changed my DNS server in the Fritzbox back to that of the provider, which was also unsuccessful. Otherwise nothing is set in the Fritzbox.

I also looked at MC's log:

I loaded the following file and added it to the folder under plugins, unfortunately this was unsuccessful and when starting, he still wants the libplacebo renderer files.
