Problem: Data disappears out of database

(1/2) > >>

globetrotters1:
Hello everyone,

hope that someone can help us. We run MC 27.0.84 on our server consisting of 500'000 music tracks and around 6'000 movies.
We assigned movies to their genres, together with cover pictures and descriptions.

When we loaded more movies into the system we ran an import/update of the whole movie database.
Then suddenly the already assigned movies of 2019 up to 2021 showed up in the 'unassigned' group again.
The pictures were most of the time still there, but the assigned data had disappeared.
Assuming it might have been our error we re-assigned all these movies, made a backup and...
when we looked into the database again a few days later, most of these data had disappeared again.

My wife, who does that work, is furious (understandably so).

Where might the problem be ?

Help is appreciated, thanks
Martin

She may be able to recover her work by doing a library restore.

Why?  Don't know.

JimH:
Describe your storage.  Internal, external, NAS?  Something's disappearing.

leezer3:
Turn off the fix missing links option.

I'd say its seeing them as missing & thus removing them.
It then reimports them sans metadata when the drive re-appears.

You might also want to turn on tag sidecars. This will preserve the metadata alongside the file (in a new XML file) and help protect from this in the future.

globetrotters1:
Thanks a lot for your advice, leezer3,

I found the missing links option and switched it off

But where can I switch on tag sidecars?
Please advise!
