Library Compilation Albums
« on: February 06, 2022, 11:34:52 am »

Hi All,
I'm a newby to JRiver and I have installed a trial version, managed to import my library of Flac Music Files mostly ripped from CD's by DB Database and some purchased Hi Res albums, I have noticed in the library some albums with multiple artists are showing as separate albums, is there a simple way of combining these to make one compilation album as it should be, I am not highly technical so any easy suggestions would be appreciated.

Check the tags.  Album Artist and Album have to be the same.

Use Linn Compilations as Album Artist.

Probably also as Album.

The wiki explains this.

Here's the relevant wiki article:

https://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Album_Artist_and_Album_Artist_(Auto)

The summary of that article, for compilation albums is:  For compilations, leave Artist as is.  Then set Album Artist to a single value, usually the primary artist.  In your case, I would set Album Artist to "Paul Simon".  That should do it.

Are you using MC in client/server mode?

Why do you think they aren't saved?

MC has a setting which tells it to save changes in the file itself.

I'm guessing saving it on a client and not the server.  This can cause this type of behavior.

Hi All,
I have my music files on a Qnap nas, the compilation albums display correctly on there, I have that library on a trial version of JRiver MC, when I view Graceland by Paul Simon I get multiple albums with different artists, if I change the Tag/Name in the library as suggested the changes are not saved and the tags revert back, I'm not sure if I can change the files in the  Qnap as they look okay, should I be able to save the changes in the library on MC ? Hope this makes sense.

I'm assuming that your MC is accessing files directly from qnap and you haven't installed MC to other PC as a server and other PC with MC as client.

Do you have "Edit =>  Update Tags When File Info Changes" checked?

MC is on my laptop and the library source is the qnap,

I think that's your problem right there.  I'm guessing you are accessing the QNAP via DLNA.  You probably clicked on it in the side bar at some point.

If you really want to use MC, you should import your music files from disk.  "Import" just means that MC reads them and inventories them.  The QNAP is a file server, so it should be accessible as a network drive, or network path.  So if it's on the M: drive, then do an import of the music folder on the M: drive.  If it's not a drive, I'll leave it to the other guys here on how to guide you to importing the music files.

The key point here is to access the files as FILES and not as a DLNA library from the QNAP.

Hi Brian,
Thanks for the reply, I wanted to access the MC from my laptop then USB B into my System Player, I wanted to use the Qnap as I have the files on the internal drives and being NAS I did not need my PC on, I have now installed JRiver MC on my PC the same files are also on a seagate external drive connected to the PC, all looks right and plays fine, just not near my System Player hence laptop ?

Now use the Library media server to connect your client laptop's MC to the server.

Or just create library on laptop by importing files (it doesn't move files just creates database on laptop which points to qnap files) from qnap as Brian said. No need to use that desktop PC at all.

Hi All,
Thanks for all your advice, I tried a few things but no joy so I deleted the library and reinstalled from the Qnap files and it seems to work and save any edits on the laptop.

Thanks Again
