"View Extras" works for many but not all albums
« on: March 23, 2022, 09:36:55 am »

The dropdown menu for "View Extras" (RMB on album image in a standard view) lists "Cover Art" and *.jpg sidecar image files in the album directory, as expected, for most but not all of my albums.  In the vast majority of the approximately 20 albums added in the last 2 months, only the "Cover Art" is listed under "View Extras" even though they have additional sidecar image files.  Albums added longer ago seem to behave normally.

I've examined and compared library fields for albums that work and don't work, but have not seen any differences.

How to fix this?

MC 29.0.22 on Windows 11 Pro 64-bit.

I can't explain that.

If you make a copy of a folder and import that, do the sidecars show up?

Could the filenames not be JPG, but JPEG or something?

Could you send me a package that doesn't work?  I'm matt at jriver.

Thanks.

Great call.  Indeed the problem image files were named *.JPEG.  When I rename to *.JPG, then MC "View Extras" works as expected.

All these image files were copied and pasted from the same web source, so I don't know why some got saved as jpeg vs jpg.  Other image viewing programs have no trouble displaying them either way.

One other Win11 weirdness:  To easily find the *.jpeg files, I do a search of my music directory in Windows Explorer.  Then I open the folder and rename to *.jpg.  If I repeat the Windows Explorer search, they still show up as *.jpeg in the found list, but if I open the folder they indeed have been renamed to *.jpg.  What kind of craziness is that?

Great!

Coming in a future build:
Changed: The View Extras feature also looks at .jpeg files in addition to .jpg files.

Jim had the good suggestion of loading all our file types there, so next build will have that.
