I have just hooked up my sound card (sb live 5.1) to my surround amp. Whe I play from MC the amp does not recognise the fact that the signal is multichanel (well more than 2). I thought this may be the windows (XP) drivers muxing the audio so I installed the KX drivers and selected the appropriate speaker settings and asio selected with jrss dsp 5.1 surround. Still the same, actually the sound quality from the KX drivers is worse. If you do a lot of i/o or graphic the pops/clicks can be heard
   Is there anythig I am doing wrong, If I play a dvd-a in the pc using powerdvd-xp it displays the dolby digital symbol on the powerdvd screen but still the amp does not switch to dolby.
   The amp supports dolby, prologic, prologic II, dts, cs II, etc. I am pulling my hair out, and I don't have much left.

How do you have the computer hooked to the amp?  If you're using digital then the amp will not be able to decode signal.  JRSS is for analogue output only, the decoding is done in the computer and output via the analogue outs, the same being true for DVD-A.

As far as I know, the JRSS mode outputs an analog signal via the analog outs of your soundcard. You have to connect these to a multichannel analog input on your amp/receiver (usally via 6 RCA connectors), and select pass-through on your amp to listen to it. The digital output of your sound card may be active, but it doesn't pass the JRSS sound.

your amp has no way of knowing what kind of signal is being sent (some amps can detect the format of an incoming digital signal, but I don't know of any which can analyze -correctly- an analog one).

If you rely on PowerDVD to decode 5.1 tracks, you have to select the pass-through mode on your amp to listed to the decoded information (same as with JRSS).

As other people are telling you you wont get a remixed multichannel output over SPDIF or digital outs... The reason is your soundcard lacks a dolby (or other multichannel that your reciever understands) encoder.

When playing DVD or other multichannel sources it is simply passing through a digital bitstream...
