I am fairly new to JRiver and have adopted it wholeheartedly very quickly.

After concentrating on using it on my PC, I am now ready to access my Media Center from my Android tablet and Android phone and have run into a problem with gapless playback.  I have tried the following:

• Panel - I cannot get gapless playback to work with Panel
• Gizmo - I cannot get gapless playback to work with Gizmo
• JRiver for Android - Gapless playback works for me using JRiver for Android.  Besides the additional cost for this app, I'm concerned about how much battery drain it might cause on my tablet.  I don't really need my tablet to function as a media server.
• MO 4Media - Gapless playback works, but I have some issues with the interface.  It also has an additional cost per device.

I searched the forum and found somebody else asking about gapless playback with Panel, but there was no response.

Is JRiver for Android the only JRiver client I can use to get gapless playback on my tablet and phone?

Gapless playback doesn't work in Gizmo or Panel unfortunately or the original JRemote for Android.

However, gapless playback does work for JRemote2 for Android (when using native formats) and MO 4Media - I use both with FLAC files and gapless playback works perfectly.

Thanks for the response.  What is the difference between jRemote2 for Android and JRiver for Android?  All these different apps with similar names are getting me confused.

JRemote2 is a Media Center remote app like Gizmo and MO 4Media, which like them requires JRiver Media Center running on another PC/Mac to connect to (and you can either control that Media Center running or stream music from that running Media Center to the Android phone). JRemote2 is unable to playback media files that are locally on the Android device itself (e.g. music files on a SD card).

JRiver for Android is a standalone media player for Android devices. It can import and play files located locally on the Android device and it's capable of loading libraries from other Media Center instances running on PCs/Macs. JRemote2 and MO 4Media are the two best remote apps for JRiver Media Center right now. I have to use JRemote2 over MO 4Media (and Gizmo) when playing back "hi-res" files (e.g. 24/96 and higher) because for some reason on my phone trying to play them audio skips and it simply isn't able to play them. JRemote2 on the other hand can, and I suspect it's because it's using ExoPlayer 2 for playback.

I use both JRemote2 and MO 4Media to stream FLAC files (gaplessly!) from my JRiver Media Center running 24/7 on a Raspberry Pi (which is linked to my NAS) to my Android phones. It works extremely well - I can even enjoy Pink Floyd albums without any annoying gaps between songs.

Is there a technical reason why Panel cannot deliver gapless playback?

Good question (and I seem to recall asking, can't remember though) but if I had to guess, maybe something to do with the web browser preventing it, not sure.

I believe when it was first brought up it was thought that gapless playback wouldn't be reliable when playing to the browser. However, I can see there are a couple of gapless HTML5 audio players now, so we could take another look.
