« on: March 15, 2003, 03:13:44 pm »

Today I Finished Adding 8 Lyrics Sites to the Lyrics Finder Option in the Plug-in

Now You Can Automatically Search Eight (8) Lyrics Sites For Lyrics For Your Music. The Program Will Then Save The Lyrics To MC9's Database And The Music File Tags.

More Info, Pictures Etc...

K,
Just tried it - nice job :)

Few things:
Firstly - the program has TONS of options, this is great but means it can take a while to configure. Right now you have the ability to save pre-set options. Why not auto configure these to have some default ones:
  • Full Lyrics and Chart Info (all options)
  • Light Lyrics and Chart Info (less overbearing options to not replace or right as much info)
  • Chart Postition only
  • Lyrics only

Small details but you know the program better than anyone so you could really set these options perfectly to do just those tasks. I personally plan to use it as just a lyrics lookup (YES - I've wanted this for ages to get all my songs properly fully tagged). SO THANK YOU FOR THIS!! :)

    Second thing : -
I just tried it on the album: Jennifer Lopez - This is me then.
It's not finding the lyrics for some of the songs but when I manually create the strings in the url of my browser it's working and getting the lyrics each time
    ie:
http://www.lyricsstyle.com/j/jenniferlopez/again.html - Worked (failed in the plugin)
http://www.lyricsstyle.com/j/jenniferlopez/theone.html - Worked (failed in the plugin)
http://www.lyricsstyle.com/j/jenniferlopez/babyiloveyou.html - Worked (failed in the plugin although the song name in MJ has a ! at the end - might be worth stripping non letter or numeric characters from the strings when searching)

Thirdly - here are some sites that worked with the format you required - I tested with a few songs:

    http://www.anysonglyrics.com/lyrics/j/jenniferlopez/theone.htm
http://www.lyricsondemand.com/j/jenniferlopezlyrics/stilllyrics.html (works but adds the word lyrics to the end of each song)

I found a few really good ones that dont use a simple method like you requested but I'm sure could be 'manouvered' around by some smart programming and they have a LOT of lyrics which is probably why they dont use the simple method that the other sites use:
    http://www.maxlyrics.com/
    http://www.lyricsfind.com
    http://www.lyricsplace.com/

They work up to the point of sorting the artists by letter
    ie: http://www.maxlyrics.com/artistList/J

At this point you would have to read all the page info into the plugin, search for the artist in the page code and then lookup the associated hyper link ID value.
This ID would then have to be used to create the next link which would show you all the tracks for the artist.
This newly created url would then have to again be read into the plugin and it's code searched for the song name and the relivant ID found to then append to a new url to get the lyrics.

A HUGE pain I hear you screaming and SLOW as hell.

Your right BUT - combine this with a making your own lyrics db with all the song info and you could instead of having the plugin look up each song each time, you could get it to do a batch lookup of all the lyrics contained on the site to store locally.

ie: We click a button, go to bed and the plugin navigates the site, going to each artist letter site seeing which artists they have info for, it then lookups all the lyrics contained for each artist and the ID number it want and saves all this info locally so that it then knows the lyrics ID number for each song.
We then the next night click: Find the lyrics and instead of at this point traversing the site, it simple uses our local db of which lyrics are on the sites and if a match is found for the song in the local db then it looks it up online.

Alternatively - you could run a program on your computer that overnight performs the first task (finding which lyrics are on the site as well as the ID numbers of the artists and the lyrics) and include this in the download so that it already has a local db of which songs lyrics are available for. It can then lookup the lyrics online for any song matches easily and quickly from a HUGE db :) This db could be updateable easily via a download so every 2 weeks/month whatever we can download a latest 'lyrics id db'.

LoL. I know this sounds complex and long winded but in terms of the complexity of the programming it's not that complex and it'd REALLY make the lyrics finder have a LOT of power.

Also, any reason MJ couldn't include YADB to include lyrics or does it already? If so this might be a good place to also search for lyrics because as your plugin works better and better, more and more people are going to have lyrics and so hopefully YADB will get a LOT of lyrics info.

Lol.
And I just found this site:

http://www.top100lyrics.com/

It's a 'top list' of the top 100 lyrics sites. Might be of some use to you.

THANK YOU for this plugin. Lyrics are a GREAT thing to have included in all my music. :)
Manually adding for 10,000 songs though isn't worthwhile or practical.

Fantastic application...thank you.

One note: I did a batch of 100 files at once.  When I returned there were about 30 Internet Explorer pop-up ads littered about my desktop.

I assume these pop-ups are the result of the sites used to look for the lyrics.  Is there any way to block them?  I'm scared to think how many pop-ups would appear if I were to batch all of my audio files at once.

Thanks again.

Well Today I Added 3 More Web Sites, And Went Back And Corrected A Few Things With The Older Lyrics Sites.

The 3 New Site Are:

http://www.absolutelyric.com
http://www.music-road.com
http://www.lyricsdownload.com (Very Large Database, 140.279 Lyrics)

A New Option Added

[X] Remove Extra Spaces (Padding)

I found A Lyrics That had many spaces in it so this option takes care of some weardly entered Lyrics.

Nila
>> Second thing
if it is not named almost exacly like the web page has it will fail.

>> Thirdly
I will look at them, and add them if they pan out

I have a link to a pop-up blocker that works well and I have no Popup's on my screen at all.

The New Version 1.0.33 Is Out Now.

I'm confused about a couple of things. How do you get it to check the internet? It didn't seem to do that at all for me (yes, I have the newest version).

Also, the two check boxes under "Look Up and Apply Lyrics..." don't uncheck. Either under the database option or the internet option.

Also, is there anyway to get it not to fill my Lyrics field with all those extra lines of advertisements? :P

Touche Doof...I asked for the very same thing.  It seems crazy to add all that to my lyrics. I know where to downlaod Media Center as I am using it to run the plugin...I know where to get the plugin as I am using it to get the lyrics :P

Otherwise great plugin but please King either shorten or remove the ads at the end.

Pretty Please ;D
