Starting video playback has been unreliable for almost 2 years. at first, I thought the issue was caused by Nvidia shield or outdated Exoplayer (it could still be caused by old Exoplayer).
With 29.0.37 installed, the playback start up failure has improved.
I still see some failures.
A few days ago, I had to within Mo4media used the option to load external player.
I have a custom Exoplayer 2.11.4 forked up by a kind member by name Yuroscope in September of 2020. This version is not available  on line in the play store, rather it was given to Makemkv forum members during the early days when Mike Chen released the first version of Makemkv 1.15.1 or so for Dolby Vision.
I loaded this on my Bravia tvs, the result is flawless or almost flawless loading of videos.. all videos started fine except one without having a need to reboot.
I do not know if the  video playback issue is focus related or timing or third party exoplayer related.

Thanks.

George Omoregie.

I assume you mean playback on MC.
Are your MC video settings using the JRVR renderer and is hardware rendering turned on?

Hendrik:
Talk about mo4media and Exoplayer has me thinking this is not MC on Linux.

Hello:
I know this thread is not for Mo4media, but it is the app I used for playback and since this 29.0.37 talks about "Focus" given to the video player, I thought it will be ok to get this write up under this 29.0.37 thread.

I am on MC 29xxxx, of recent version 37.
I am using JRVR settings, tried various settings ,hardware rendering is properly configured. I have Nvidia rtx 2080 ti in Nvlink mode, lot of memory ..128 gig. I know I have lots of horse power to do anything.
Same playback start up firing issues on prior versions of MC.including MC 28..., MC 27xxxx.
This started during the early release of Exoplayer 2.11.4 , almost two years ago.
But if and when the movie commences, it has very nice videos, very appealing to the eyes.
Note most of my playback  is 98% via the network either from various rooms in the house or external , outside the home.

I installed Mo4media on Nvidia and also directly on the Bravia tvs.

I hardly play or watch movies directly on the tv via the  theaterview.
If I do, it is just to see the eye candy of JRiver once in a while.
To sum everything.. my main issue is getting the movie playback to kick in . It seems like it is misfiring.
Thanks.

Hello:
Nice work on the JRVR features. thanks for the brilliant work. Movies shine on my Bravia tvs..
Can't wait to get one or two Hisense 4k or 8K tvs in.

YES.. the only platform I work on is Linux..
I am about to upgrade to Ubuntu 22.04 64 bit soon.
While discussing about Linux,, how about the GOODIES (tooltips) from the Windows platform, find a way to make it default install within Windows 32 and 64 bits, then post IOS and Linux.
It will give  MC a modern facelift in terms of functionality.
The thread about tools tip is about 17 pages, due to my health problem, no way I will be able to sit down in front of a computer to integrate all that on my own endeavor.
Since  JR is lucky to have forum members, technical enough to design the tools tip, I suggest JRiver could use the services of those forum members by paying them and integrating these tools as default. Linux distros.

Thanks.

Those will install without user intervention.

Any others you unpack into ~/.jriver/Media\ Center\ 29/Skins under the appropriate directory.

Of the 3 i tried one did auto install but into MediaCenter 28 (which I still have installed) The manual install did work fine. I had no clue where to manually install. Many thanks for the info.
