DVD-Audio stops playing in the middle
« on: April 22, 2018, 03:57:18 pm »

When i playback a ripped DVD-Audio  it will only play 2 -4 songs then just stops for no apparent reason. This happens no matter which DVD-audio I play.
they have all been ripped in and i think they are mostly ripped as .ifo.
I also went and unchecked the box that said to stop playing after long pause or long silence , but that did not help .
 I am running Windows 7 .. also 32bit Mc24.
Any ideas

Media Center cannot play DVD-A discs, it only supports DVD Video playback.
It's possible that this is either a DVD Video disc, or a hybrid disc that has DVD-A and DVD-V tracks.

If you browse the disc in Windows Explorer, the AUDIO_TS folder will be empty for a DVD Video disc, or there will be files in both the AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS folders if it's a hybrid disc.

I would suggest using MakeMKV to rip the disc if it's a DVD Video disc, and foobar2000 can convert DVD-A discs to FLAC (or your desired uncompressed/lossless format) using the DVD-Audio Decoder plug-in.

It rips it into an .ifo.
I can play it just fine that way .
I can even select from the menus and the audio setup.
I bitstream it to McIntosh Mx151 through HDMI.
It sees the correct audio through HDMI
Decodes it as DTS ,mostly or Dolby if it is Dolby.
It worked fine on MC23 without stopping after a certain time period

That's a video disc, not DVD-A.
I'm not sure why it is stopping partway through playback, but I'd still suggest ripping with MakeMKV.

It IS a DVD-audio disc, as are the other 5 that i have .
It is all over the package and i know what a dvd-audio is .
It is still on a DVD , but it uses most of the DVD for the Audio formats .
That is why most of the video on them are still shots and menus.
Any and all of them stop after 20 minutes of play.
This did not happen on MC23

There is a difference between a video disc that has still images and PCM, Dolby Digital, or DTS encoded tracks, and a DVD-A disc which contains MLP-encoded audio tracks.
It may be a "music DVD" but it's a video disc.

If MC23 plays it fine, and MC24 does not, that's something for the JRiver team to investigate.
I'm only suggesting that you try ripping the disc with MakeMKV.

well, Maybe it is only playing the dvd part . I don't know.
I'll find out as i have ordered a Oppo Digital UDP-203
It looks like the DVD-Audio should put out 24bit at 192khz
I am not getting that bit rate .
So , my apologies to you.  You are correct.
I just did not realize that there is a default video on the disc that puts out DTS 5.1 audio with it.
But there is also a seperate 24 /192  DVD-audio on the disc as well.

You can rip the DVD-Audio part of your discs using "DVD Audio Extractor" > http://www.dvdae.com/

I have ripped my DVD-A's to 5.1 so it can be done, but it was a while ago and I am not at home at the moment to check how.

Personally I ripped to FLAC, or at least ended up as 5.1 FLACs

I have the same problem with DVD-A rips. It stops playing after about 20 minuets. If You restart, it goes back to the beginning of the track that was playing when it stopped. It will play a few more songs, then stop again.
This may have something to do with the watermark, which is impossible to remove.
Of course, there are different ways to just rip the tracks as stereo or 5.1, but one loses the pictures for each track and any videos that may also be on the DVD-A.
