In Audio Albums view, viewing thumbnails... I used to be able to right click on the thumbnail cover, select "Cover Art"/"View (fist file)", and the album art would open immediately in full resolution in my default JPG viewer (FastStone Image Viewer 7.5). Now... all it does is open the FastStone Image Viewer app window, with no image viewable or available.

So it seems like clicking "Cover Art"/"View (first file)" is not creating a viewable image when clicked. FastStone will still open a JPG file immediately (as usual), but clicking MC29 "Cover Art"/"View (first file)" does not present a viewable image to FastStone. This has always worked okay for the many years I've been using JRiver MC. Now it seems broken. Or do I have a setting mistakenly changed somewhere?

We're looking.  I think the recent cleanup code is cleaning up too soon now.
