Sync with Handheld Device - Conversion Not Being Done
« on: May 19, 2022, 09:39:03 am »

Hello.

I'm trying to sync a selection of music files (all in .FLAC) format to a Sony Walkman NW-A55, with conversion to MP3.

I am able to successfully transfer the files to the Walkman, but no MP3 conversion takes place. They are transferred as FLAC files, which is not the result I want.

I've enabled the MP3 conversion options in the Options dialog (correctly, I believe). A screen capture of the dialog is attached.

What more steps must I complete to get the desired conversion during ther transfer process? Or am I miunderstanding how syncing works?

Many thanks in advance.

You're saying "Only when necessary" and maybe you also said the device supports FLAC.  Just change either.

Excellent. Changing the Mode value to "Specified output format" worked as intended. Thank you very much.

Not that it matters now, but I'm curious about your statement about device format support. I do not see where this sort of device management is handled. Under the "Device management" section of the Options dialog, I see "Add device... " and "Rename device...", but no other obvious place to manage supported file formats.

Do you perhaps mean "Supported Types" under the "Files, Paths, & More" section? Under there, I see "Supported Types", whose current value is set to the * wildcard, presumably means it suports all formats, but given where it is placed, I'm guessing it pertains to image file formats, not audio file formats.

"Supported types" is a list of file types that you don't want to be automatically converted.
