Hi forum.

I'm a newbie to JRiver, but was told by someone that I could use it to setup a proper HTPC. Is it possible to replicate the following key features in a JRiver HTPC?

• Surround sound decoding for 4+ channels (I've read yes)
• Outputting all audio channels from HTPC via digital (maybe connected to a Motu MK2 via USB?)
• Room correction for all channels via Dirac (Live?). I have a UMIK1 for this purpose. (I've read that this is possible for stereo, but not sure for surround sound)
• Via a PCI capture card: HDMI audio extraction + surround sound processing (from sources like a Playstation or other gaming console) -- assuming all content is non-HDCP
• Room EQ wizard integration on all audio channels in case I want to override anything from Dirac's auto-EQ (or is this possible via Dirac?)

That's all I can think of for now that would be important for my use case...may add more later.

And is there an authoritative wiki where I can research all these topics? Thanks in advance!

I haven't seen multichannel audio capture though perhaps such a card exists. I very much doubt the latency would be acceptable for live use though.

What is "room eq Wizard integration" exactly?

I know what rew is, I am asking what is meant by "integration"?

For example, does the OP hope to load rew eq format directly into MC? If so, this is not supported (but can be done using https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,129609.0.html instead of using DSP studio UI).

 Alternatively is it just meaning to be able to use rew to measure MC? If so, this works fine (e.g. https://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Verifying_DSP_Studio)

Do you mean that you haven't seen multi-channel audio capture via HDMI? If not, are there other formats such as Toslink etc. that would support multi-channel audio capture from an external device such as a PS5?

Correct, I don't recall seeing a hdmi capture card that provides multichannel audio and which works. For example, Magewell has an SDK which apparently supports it but I have not seen a media player which uses it. I haven't looked for a while though. The latency looks a bigger problem mind you.

Ah that's unfortunate. I guess I'll have to find some other kind of digital audio capture card to get multichannel audio from an external source. It's a bit surprising that this is a feature that you can get very cheaply in a budget AVR, but a card that does the same for PC's is unavailable.

USB can do a bunch of channel in and out.

Multichannel audio is a matter of the source. If youi have the source as a multichannel flac file than its easy. Get a multichannel audiointerface, connect it ot the PC where JRiver runs and you are done.

HDMI is a pain as its encrypted...
