I am running Media Center v29 on Linux Mint, which connects to a remote NAS holding the media files.

When I change something under Options, and then try to save my changes, I get the message "Audio File Location Cannot be Read Only" and it does not seem to let me save my changes.

I am curious why the audio file location MUST be read-write. I upload and Tag media on another machine, using different credentials that are naturally read/write.

Since the machine that plays my media has auto login and auto start for Media Center etc, I like to make sure that it does not have write access to the NAS for security reasons.

I also run the Windows versions and do not remember getting the same warning there.

Is there a way I can run Media Center for Linux on read only media?

That's not a very descriptive message. We'll make it more so.

What's it's referring to is that the locations in Settings for ripping (not implemented on linux MC yet) can't be in a read-only area.
The same applies to Podcasts.
If you aren't using Podcasts you could change them both to /tmp
