MC & Native DSD Directory Structure
« on: June 08, 2022, 08:30:06 am »

Downloads from Native DSD create the following Folder Structure:

Artist (e.g. LSO)->Album (e.g. Mendelssohn – Symphonies Nos 1 & 4 - LSO0769)->DSDxxxfs -nch (e.g. DSD 64fs -2ch) ->Tracks

Cover & Booklet are stored in the Artist Directory and not in the DSDxxxfs-nCh directory (have it only once for different resolutions (CD, DSD).

If one wants to use this pattern MC does not find the booklet and Cover Art (using View Extras).

Is that a good pratice what Native DSD does or would you suggest something else?

For me it would be nice if I can leave booklet and Cover in the Artist Folder and MC would find it.

Currently the view extras feature looks in the same folder and subfolders.  But it seems safe to search one level higher as well.  So we'll try it for the next build.

Thanks for the suggestion.

As I read again I'm not sure that will be enough.  Thoughts?

We'll make the number of levels to search up configurable in the right-click.  It will default to zero.

The question is: Is it a good pattern or is the pattern download it from Native DSD and restructure it, move it to the target folder structure and then import it to MC?

Attached is an example how I I restructured it in the way MC except it.
What is best practice for this?

If you have than a CD version also you have the booklet,cover twice.

In the past I did it this way (1st is the HighRes Version)
Diana Krall->From This Moment On
Diana Krall->From This Moment On (CD)

In that screenshot you have the extras right next to the files.  A coming Media Center will allow you to say search up more levels so it would work with what you posted earlier.  Since it defaults to not search up any levels, it should be safe.

That's how it is - a fresh Native DSD purchase and Download:

Will it up go those levels, and then search for the list of "extras" folders such as scans,artwork,etc?  Or will it look in that root directory only that is up so many levels?  In the OP example, they could have a folder up one level with "artwork."  Thanks.
