MC 25 Convert Format Options

A question that has vexed me for some time now pertains to the "preset" on the convert format function.  When I perform a convert format on files, the pectinate menu center selection is "Preset"  I assume these presets are structured similar to the presets used in the "Rename, Move and Copy Files" command but have played around with variations and permutations of that format with no success.  Is there a specific WIKI topic on convert format presets, or does anyone have the magic decoder ring for this function?
