Trying to figure out what I'm doing wrong...

I'm trying to play hi-res audio files back on my computer using JRiver Media Center version 29.0.87 through my USB-C DAC into headphones.

According to JRiver's AudioPath map, I am listening to my 24bit 96KHz music resampled to 48KHz!

But, according to the Windows 11 Sound Settings, the hardware I'm listening through should support 24bit 96KHz.

So, I guess I must be missing some setting I don't know about?

I've included some screen images of various settings I've found while poking around.

The computer is a Dell Inspiron 17 Model 5770 running Windows 11 Home with the latest MS updates (Version 21H2, OS Build 22000.1042).

No splats in the Device Manager; all loaded drivers for hardware appear to be OK.

I've tried several USB-C dongles and gotten the same result. All of these claim performance at least to 24bit 96KHz:

I'm using these external DACs because Windows says the on-board sound devices don't support higher than 24bit 48KHz and I was experimenting using them with my phone that no longer has the 3.5mm headphone jack.

I've looked around on this thread (https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=127688.0) that I thought might have some beneficial insights but no luck so far.

Any helpful ideas appreciated!

What output format/bitrate have you set in JRiver?

It's almost certainly the 'output format' especially since you've tried multiple dongles.
It's the first tab of the DSP editor. Change each incoming format to your desired target. I do this for an audio interface I use which works best at 48kHz.
It's easy to miss this step so if you haven't done so, this will be your answer. If your output format IS already 96 kHz in the DSP Studio, then something is amiss.

i've attached some pictures.
my source material, the Cedar Walton Trio's "Midnight Waltz", is 24bit 96KHz.
I'm using the mblu dongle which can do almost everything.
I set it in Windows for 24bit 96KHz. The "Test" button correctly sounds in each earpiece.
I went into jriver mc to look for the dsp settings you mentioned.
I set to what you see in the image:
Output Encoding - None
Sample Rate - I changed the Output settings to "No change" for everything 384KHz and under. Everything above 384KHz, I set to 384KHz since that is where the mblu tops out.
Channels - 2 channels (stereo)
Extra Channels - None
Mixing - No upmixing or downmixing
I hit "Play" for the first song, heard music and called up "Audio Path"
