Problems with HDR passthrough
« on: October 04, 2022, 12:49:29 pm »

Having a projector, I've always preferred tone mapping to passthrough.

I wanted to try the passthrough after a quick calibration and got a good result. However, I have a problem (I think it has already been discussed but I can't find the thread) when I close and reopen that film or another always in HDR: the image appears dark and off as if the HDR was not activated.

However, if I start a film in sdr and then another in hdr, at this point everything works regularly: what can this depend on?

I have a doubt: could it depend on Win10? Should I maybe switch to Win11? ?

Do you have your desktop set to HDR, or are you relying on MC to enable it if needed?

Are you using JRVR? madVR has some issues with properly enabling pass-through on some systems.

The desktop is set to SDR and I rely on MC for HDR.

I haven't used madvr anymore since JRVR has existed ;D

A little while ago I discovered that the problem occurs only in Theater View mode: in standard view it works fine

FWIW, I switched to Win11 and leave HDR on all the time and don't do any switching.  Works well.

In order to switch to Win11 I would have to change almost all the components of the htpc :(
