How to rename from file, to the Tag?
« on: March 08, 2023, 03:25:00 pm »

I have a CD that is not adding the info to the file but did name the file correctly.
example   01 I See You    When I add this to playing now JRiver does not show anything for the file name.
Track 1  Unknown artist  Unknown album (2/14/2021 11:44:36 AM)
Is there a way to rename the track in JRiver to the match the name of the file automatically [F6]

Are you looking for Tools>Library Tools>Fill Properties From>Filename?

Or you can right click on the file/track and get to Library Tools that way.

This is the before and after.  Not working for some reason.  Nothing changes.  The track name in JRiver still shows Track 1.  It did not adopt the name of the file

For tracks where filename is [track #]<space>[Name] e.g. "01 Song name.flac"

Click template and set filename rule to follow that above pattern:
[Track #] [Name]

In the preview you can see what's going to change and if results looks fine then ok the changes

Doing that.. The file name stays the same, but the name in JRiver is not changing to match the file name in the directory.

Please share screenshot from the fill properties from filename where we can see your filename and also parameters you are giving to it. Just the end result doesn't help to analyze what your problem is

As you can see, the track on my drive as ripped is correct.  The metadate in the file is not.  Nothing there.  No idea why the first track is doing this when ripped.
So love the name as JRiver pulls it to match the file name.

There should be 4 attachments here

Okay, the last one is the one which gets us forward. Check the pattern  ;)

You have used there "[track #] - [name]" even though your filename doesn't have " - " as separator for the track number and song name. As your filename uses pattern [Track #]SPACE[Name], that's the pattern you need also tell to MC so it can separate the fields.
So you should use "[Track #] [Name]" there (without quotes). Then also preview should appear.

That should solve it  :)
