Freeze and white screen (view)

When I click in the tag tree on the image window and choose "view (first file)" I see - as expected - the image filling the full screen.
When I want to return to normal view, by pressing "escape" on the keyboard, a white/grey screen appears.
The only way to continue working is to shut down MC with a forced quit.
The same white/grey screen appears while playing some mp4 videos. There is sound but no picture.
Same happened many builds earlier and was corrected afterwards.

I have exactly the same symptoms on both MC 29 and 30 running on Mac Apple silicon.

Started happening when I upgraded to Ventura 13.
