Thumbnails disappeared on update to MC 30.0.27
« on: November 02, 2022, 08:33:06 pm »

I just updated to MC 30.0.27 from 30.0.18 and ran system info.  my thumbnails are now back to 0%. I have not seen this happen before on any update across all previous versions of MC.

Does note 11 for the updates mean that thumbnails were wiped?

I will once again manually rebuild my thumbnails.  (Hope this is not the way future updates will work).

Edit. Corrected title.

My experience is the opposite. In MC30 the thumbnails are preserved when I restore from a backup that was made including the thumbnails. This was not the case in MC29. Between platforms, when I add new tracks, only the new thumbnails are missing when I restore such a library from another platform. For me, this is a huge improvement. You need to make sure that when you back you a library that 'back up thumbnails' is turned on. There is now a permanent option as well.

I had the same, after upgrading to 30.0.27 (not 30.0.37; typo in your title). I had to rebuild all thumbnails.

Thanks Paul S.A. Renaud, I corrected the title.
HaWi, good to know that major upgrade thumbnail issue has been improved. However this was a minor upgrade from 30.0.18 to 30.027. Normally it was not necessary to back up and restore library between minor upgrades. It was only required/advised between major upgrades ( i.e.  from MC29 to MC 30).

Well, .27 is special because of the change in how diacritical characters are being dealt with and that's why I backed up in .18 and restored in .27. That way, all the thumbnails were preserved. However, it's not a big deal to recreate the thumbnails, just takes a bit of time if you have a large library.
I am somewhat paranoid about the integrity of my system and I always keep an up-to-date backup of my libraries.

HaWi, you make a good point. It’s quite quick and simple to back-up and restore a library. As I mentioned in my first post the loss of thumbnails was possibly the result of the change in data base per release note 11. We’ll see in the next update.

There wasn't supposed to be any changes to the Thumbnails.
Only the stored paths to the track filename and the track image (if outside of tags) filename.

It happened on my system when I upgraded to .27 also.  No biggie here.  Just rebuilt the thumbnails.

Found the issue. It's fixed in 30.0.30. It was really a generic issue which was always deleting the thumbnail on image filename update whether or not anything had changed.
