Playlists - Expand Links Checkbox

I noticed that in my smart playlists there is a 'Expand Links' checkbox on the top. I was assuming that by un-checking it linked tracks would not be pulled into the list. However, that doesn't seem to be the case. In fact, I can see no changes in any list when checking and un-checking this box. Is there something I am missing? I'd love to be able to not get all linked tracks into some playlists.

It's checking when it expands the play set but it's already been expanded.  I'll try to fix it this week.  Thanks for your help.
