Even though I can download the encoder plug-ins, they don't work.
It will sit there for hours saying "encoding" with very little processor activity. The only way to close is CTRL/ALT/DEL and close MC9. I have no idea if it's just me or not.

 I have not had any trouble with analyzing files. It would be easier to tell you what DOES work. I can rip and covert from ape to wav and back whenever I want. Nothing else in the encoder department works. I've tried all of them. When trying to convert an ape to MP3 (or anything else), it "decodes" just fine and then stops. There is no more computer activity no matter how long I wait. It won't Cancel or Close without going to the CTRL+ALT+DEL menu.
JimH thought it might have something to do with the sound card malfunction (mine) but I bought a new one and still the problems with encoders.

Bringing up a virus brings to mind a message I got from NAV:

 The file C:\WINDOWS\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\AP63ODQB\leggy[1].htm is infected with the  JS.Seeker virus.
Unable to quarantine this file.

Anybody know anything about that one? I can't get any specific information, not even from Norton.

Clean re-install is on the very near horizon ... maybe tomorrow. I have to be absolutely sure I keep what I want.

If Norton is crap, who would you recommend?

norton is crap== very expensive and very heavy on your machine.
Concerning virus , i think it is good.
Few tips : save you 'cdplayer.ini ' folder and put your IE favorites on a floppy

Good tip on the cdplayer.ini. I am putting all to save on a removable drive (USB 2 Western Digital 120 GB)
