MC30 - Problem importing music library on MacBook Air M1 Ventura

I have downloaded JRiver to macos Ventura on my mac mini and everything seems fine but I cannot get any output on the volume. i can clearly see my Apple playlists and they are playing according to the U/I but no sound. I have tried Audio midi and allotted to correct channels but still no sound. Any ideas? I don't fancy Roon much, just too expensive.

What device are you playing to?
Check the volume control on MC, the little button to the left of the volume slider.
Is it set to internal volume, system volume, muted??
