Adaptive Volume not applied
« on: December 02, 2022, 02:01:09 am »

Great day,
Since some time I'm noticing Adaptive Volume isn't applied. The overal output is noticable low(er).
All my audio songs does have Volume Levelling and Adaptive Volume set via the DSP Preset and into each song's tag.

Within the DSP settings, during playback, i can clearly see the Adaptive Volume and  setting is enabled, but when hoovering over the DSP icon it isn't nore within the Audio Path window.

Once i disable and re-enable A.V. it starts working again, by raising the output level, after a few seconds.
Till reboot of MC.

Guessing something is ignored since the recent build's or the DSP behaviour isn't respecting this setting.

Thanks for looking into this behaviour,

Great day, anyone also noticing this behavior or having a look at ?
The issue persist after each reboot or (re-)starting MC.
Simply disabling and re-enabling Adaptive Volume within the DSP menu will raise the volume as normal and stays active till a next restart.

I've checked many times, all songs, albums, have DSP preset within the respective tags.
This DSP preset has both Leveling and Adaptive Volume enabled.

Thanks !

I just rebooted my computer, started playback, and see this in Audio Path:
Adjust volume by x.x dB for volume leveling

I use the "Peak Level Normalize" mode.

So I haven't been able to reproduce anything amiss yet.

Thanks Matt for your test and reaction  ;)

My thinking;
I'm guessing you're seeing the same as what I've noticed;

"Adjust volume by x.x dB for volume leveling"
So Volume Leveling is working indeed,
but the also enabled feature Adaptive Volume isn't mentioned in audio path nore activate.
Even it's enabled within the DSP profile.

Meaning each track is kept at the same 'level', but the overall level is reduced,
If I'm correctly understanding Adaptive Volume is the feature which would compensate/raise output for the 'averaged - lowered level' caused by Volume Leveling.

Normally when both features are enabled, the Audio Path tells you about there state/contribution within two lines, right ?
Recently i noticed Leveling is also respected according the DSP profile, but Adaptive Volume isn't.
Only when manually disable and re-enabling.

Thanks for your help,

I just rebooted and also see:
"Adjust volume by x.x dB for peak level normalize (fixed)"

So it seems like that option is working for me too.

Maybe we could get some other people to help test.

Thanks.

Great day Matt,

I've just captured you the 'issue' and mailed the video to you.
You'll also hear in the video the moment the Adaptive Volume kicks in, when entering the DSP menu, but not automatically like the profile/tag should be doing.

Thanks for watching and looking into.

Thanks for the video.  I can see it's just not there at first but is after a bit.

Could you try a new zone to clear any settings?  I'm wondering if some setting is causing that, but I'm not sure what it might be.

If a new zone still does it, we might have some uninitialized variable in MC.  If a new zone doesn't do it, there must be some setting and maybe we can find it.

Thanks.

Great day dear Matt,

Thanks,

Fyi It's not just activated after a bit.
It's activated once the DSP menu is opened and on screen for some seconds.
Quickly opening and closing the DSP menu doesn't make the profile/options to be respected neither.

I've added and used now a second zone, same behavior.
Please see my second video which I've just put on mail to you,

PS I've been using MC since something like version 19.
Never noticed something like this before. MC30 related ?

Thanks sir for checking thisone out.

30.0.41 (12/12/2022)
3. Fixed: Adaptive Volume would not reload nicely with DSP Presets.

Thanks Matt for the fix !!
