Switching to laptop, min requirements?
« on: March 02, 2003, 01:32:32 pm »

Im selling my monster setup i currently run on and was curious as to what the minimum system requirements were as far as dvd playback, music playback, and editing. Im trying to save some money so that i can purchase one of the new LaCiE monster 500gb external firewires along with my laptop, and i was curious as to what i should get.....other than MJ, my only other usage of the laptop would be for office apps, so MJ will be the meat of my usage.

well.....just an update.......i ended up investing in a Dell Inspiron 8200, 1.8P4-M w/512k cache 400mhz bus, 512mb ddr, 30gb uata, windows xp, 24x cdrw/8x dvd combodrive, ATI Radeon Mobility 9000.

I also bought a soundblaster extigy, and a iomega 120gb firewire hd, and Logitech z-680 5.1 surround sound system (1000 watts total power)

all this for 2k US$.......did i do good.......or was i robbed.......i feel like i did good.......but ive been proven wrong before, many times actually

I just bought a Sony PCG-FR130; which is a good budget model.  One thing that I noticed while shopping is that the 14.1" and 15" screens don't look that great.  My advice is to go for a 16.1" screen; they seem to look as good as a desktop flat panel, and they can run at 1280 x 1024 or possibly even higher.
