The Automatic Updating of [Total Discs] and [Total Tracks]
aviateur:
Hello Mates:
Regarding the non-user data fields, Total Discs and Total Tracks, I have a few questions regarding the updating logic.
1) What internal process within Media center automatically updates these fields?
2) If it is an internal process, what triggers this action?
3) If it is an external action such as media importing, what determines these values?
I am aware that I can manually update these fields within the 'Tag' function. These question have to do with what, how and when these fields are automatically updated. Thanks in advance for your consideration.
Cheers,
Lawrence

Jim,
Thanks for the reply.
The only mention of the fields [Total Discs] and [Total Tracks] that I could find was in the MC20 release notes. Here is the subject entry:
--- Quote ---20.0.72 (2/17/2015)
1. Fixed: Hauppauge WinTV PVR 350 (and maybe 250 too) analog television tuner did not work.
2. Fixed: Reading a SACD ISO with empty data packets could cause a crash.
3. Changed: Made the SACD ISO parser a little more forgiving.
4. NEW: Added a 'Total Tracks' field to the library. Currently updated from MP3 files, MP4 files, FLAC files, and during CD ripping.
5. NEW: Added a 'Total Discs' field to the library, which is updated from MP3, MP4, and FLAC files.
6. Changed: Updated German translation (thanks Bytestar).
--- End quote ---
From items 4 and 5 above, I cannot determine with certainty if this is just a 'one time' pass during importing that establishes initial values for these fields. I suspect that this may be the case. If so, that means the integrity of the field values is compromised if one does any file/album/artist reorganization as well as additions, and deletions (as many OCD-types like myself are prone to do). I'm still unsure of what the intent of the subject fields are in every track.
Cheers,
Lawrence
Matt:
Total Discs is updated each run of the program.
Total Tracks is only updated when you rip a CD.
