Low latency kernel ? MC30 on linux mint
(1/1)
deckman:
Hi, I have MC30 installed on Linux mint 21.1 with the Xfce desktop. Running on a Dell Wyse 5060 (2.4GHz quad core AMD with 8gb ram) I’m using asynchronous USB to connect to a Cambridge Audio Azur 851D DAC. Music is stored in FLAC on an internal (SATA) 2TB SSD
I use Gizmo for control, It works great and sounds fantastic.
Given the above, would I benefit from installing a low latency kernel?
Apart from removing all other apps not essential to jriver, are there any other tweaks I can make to optimise the system to allow jriver to perform at its best. ?
Thanks, Mark

If it works great and sounds fantastic then it's not obvious you have a problem to solve or anything to improve. You don't need to do anything else beyond that.

Honestly? No.
Just use an OS, don't try tweaking or anything. Ubuntu, Mint or Debian works great with Media Center as-is, with no need to use special "tweaked" OSes or low latency kernels.

You're getting good advice from mattkahn and Awesome Donkey. Don't mess with the OS.

Thank you all for the sound advice, I will do as you suggest and leave well alone.
Appreciate your help.
