SACD and DSD Questions

(1/1)

davewave:
As I understand it, right now DSD extractions from SACD ISO files rely on a two step process.  The individual tracks are converted to PCM, then back to DSD/DSF.

First, is JRiver contemplating an approach to just extract the DSD/DSF files directly without going through the PCM step?

Secondly, would JRiver consider adding a function to let users create their own SACD ISO files from individual DSD tracks?

What would be ideal is to apply DST lossless compression to these self created files.  One use case is to create DSD mix collections.  Secondly, sometimes I want to put a SACD ISO file onto a portable device but leave out the unneeded 5.1 layer.  For example, create a pure stereo version of Dark Side of the Moon in native DSD and have the track be properly compressed to minimize space usage.

Awesome Donkey:
Use sacd_extract with a frontend (e.g. Sonore's iso2dsd) to extract DSF files from a SACD ISO. This has been requested for years now, but as it is right now I don't think it'd happen anytime soon so sacd_extract with a frontend is the way to go.

There is a better solution:  SACDExtractGUI.
