HELP US: What's still slow?

With 9.0.120, we made a lot of speed improvements for large libraries.

KingSparta's infamous 135,000 file library seems to run pretty smoothly on my 2.4 AMD now. (and it wasn't very smooth a few builds back)

However, there may still be bottlenecks.  If anything in Media Center still feels slow or sluggish, please let us know.  We'll try to optimize around it.

Please post your system info with your "that's too slow" reports.

Tag updating for Album Artist is very slow yet. Have a view scheme set up for single artists (Album Artist  *  Album) and another for the various artists.

Single artists are getting the most attention, as there are more of them. I have the Artist unchecked for the list, and just use Album Artist. However I have to manually enter the artist info and when done (selecting another or clicking below the tracks), the tag updating is still very slow. I think build 115 was fairly quick at this but can't recall for sure. I suppose I could reinstall and see if it was that build.

Otherwise it seems quicker for most other actions.

Editing tracks via properties is sooooooooooo slow that I often go to sleep waiting for the field to echo the key depressions, particularly name and artist........zzzzzzz

Wow! Start up and shut down is fast.

The only slow down I notice is when importing new files. It still is significantly slower on my system than in version 9.0.88.

Getting Cover Art from Internet is soo slow (I have cable so it should be fast) and when cancelling it , it takes about  a minute before the box dissapears.

My library is 60% 1394, which is horribly slow ONLY with MC9*, even .120.

Anything to do with TV.

I have a Hauppage TV card and when i use it with MJ or MC the performance is poor and the processor runs wild.

If i use it with the supplied software it works well.

This is not a problem for me as i dont want to use it with MC - just thought youd like to know.

Searching the entire media library is sooooo much faster now.

However, when I click on 'Media Library' in the tree window pane, it takes a looong time for all the files in the library to come up in the main window to begin a search of the whole library. Also, when i clear my search for the whole library, it takes a long time for all the files to appear again. I thought it was my processor speed, but searching is very fast, and it seems to just hang when displaying all the files to begin searching.

Context sensitive menus still feel slow to me.  If I highlight one track and right click there's a slight delay, do the same thing with 15 files and you can feel the wait.  Tho' the weird thing is that the wait is the same for 15 files as for 12,000 files highlighted.

There seems to be a memory leak of some sorts while changing songs when there more than one song in playing now. In between tracks while buffering, my mouse studders for about 3 seconds and the system ameks some aweful noises. Once track is buffered, playback is smooth and no memory leaks, when the next song come on, same thing happens again. Ive got the playback buffering set to only 1 second, so it shouldnt be lagging that much, if at all.

1, - Audio Analysis still is slow after hitting Analyse.

2, - Also still getting memory leaks from it.

3, - Editing tracks via properties is very very slow. I can actually watch the field catch up and echo the key depressions, particularly name and artist.

I'll keep looking and trying to break things for you........

Still you have plenty of time as Jim says there is no new build tonight!

I'd also like to mention the TV section.

Using MC to change channels takes ages (i.e. seconds) compared to the software that comes with the card (sub second).

Very fast.  Excellent!

Since I have a love for the trivial, I did some poking around my library, and found a noticable lag with two things.
Clicking on the Auto Smartlist (music) category (not an individual smart list) gives a 6 second lag.  This is kind of pointless since this just gives you the whole Audio library.  Interestingly, clicking on Audio in the Media Library is pretty quick.

And a lag on another useless click:  The Play Stats category takes several seconds  though it gives you the same list as when you click on its subset Never Played, which is quick.
