Renaming and moving ALL files or folders to new directory
« on: June 04, 2023, 04:15:58 pm »

Hello, is there a way to move all files and folders from the old directory to the new one when renaming?

For example, if there is an Artwork folder along with the media files and logs-can the Artwork folder and contents be moved over in the renaming process?

Currently, I go to each folder and then have to copy over and then delete the old original folder-very laborious and this software is so powerful I must be doing something wrong.

See screen shots...all files copied over but not the Artwork folder. >:(

Are you using the Rename, Move, and Copy Files tool?  If so, there is a check box at the top of the interface to "move all non imported files".  Checking that box should move everything that's in the same folder as the media files.  I'm not 100% sure that it will move subdirectories, but it's worth trying on one album.

Yes, I did check the box but it does not move the folder ‘Artwork’.

Well that's no fun.  Maybe the developers will consider adding subdirectory moving as a feature.

No it is not-lol.  I would think transitioning to move a folder as well shouldn’t be too difficult but I’m not a programmer.

I appreciate you trying to help  ;D

I think RMC tool should do that already BUT I have a theory that if you viewed those files in MC, MC might think them as imported the files (i guess maybe some temporary table is created for such files) and therefore not touching those unless you explicitly command the move even though they are not really imported.

At least I have encountered similar situations that not all files are moved always. I notice this as MC doesn't then ask me that is it ok to remove empty folder (as the folder isn't empty because some files were not moved)

I did not view the artwork files in the folder.

All other files, CUE, Log or text files all moved to the new directory and folder structure.

The checkbox does not indicate anything about moving folders inside the folder with media files.

Yeah, it might be that files inside subfolders are not handled at all. Maybe some devs can confirm

The tool only moves files today.  When moving all files, it lists just the files in that folder and moves them as well.

There could be a really big directory structure under the files so that seems safest to me.

To move folders, you could drag them in the Explorer tree.

Can this be added as another checkbox?  Such that any files and folders including all files and folders within would be move to the new location?  Then have the option to delete the old folder.

I’m sure this would be very helpful for most users.
