There seems to be a few MC / AVS members like MovieMan (Vern Dias on AVS) comparing madvr vs libplacebo both on AVS and here.

I'll be preparing an update for libplacebo this coming week that should improve some of the tone mapping concerns re: saturation, and hopefully as well the blue issue in the test patterns jmone posted.
